Note - the timer has a spring-loaded mechanism - it is not suitable for precise measurements of, for example, 1-3 minutes, and is more practical for measuring longer times. Turn the dial of the timer clockwise to the end of the time scale (at which point you wind the spring so that the timer has the 'strength' to ring), and then set the desired time (by moving the dial back to the left) to, for example, 3 minutes.
